EVOC Contributes to the Release of the World’s First IEEE International Standard for Mass Customizat
Mass customization—a production model that delivers personalized products and services with the cost efficiency, quality, and speed of mass production—is increasingly replacing traditional manufacturing methods to become the mainstream paradigm of the future. However, the global manufacturing industry has lacked a standardized methodology to systematically guide enterprises in transitioning from mass production to mass customization.
Against this backdrop, on February 15, 2023, the IEEE officially announced the release of the IEEE 2672 standard, "Guide for General Requirements of Mass Customization"—a landmark document co-developed by EVOC and research institutes under China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). This milestone fills a critical gap in global research and practical frameworks for mass customization.
The standard establishes user-centric requirements for mass customization, providing manufacturing enterprises worldwide with a methodological blueprint to:
Precisely identify customer needs
Reduce inventory costs
Enhance product differentiation and diversity
Increase profitability
Achieve economies of scale
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world’s largest technical professional organization, with over 400,000 members across 160+ countries. In December 2017, IEEE authorized EVOC Intelligent and the China Electronics Standardization Institute (CESI) to establish the IEEE Mass Customization Working Group, tasked with drafting this international standard. Over five years, the expert team held dozens of meetings to refine the technical framework before finalizing the standard.
